On 29th & 30th September peer mentors at UAK held a cake sale to raise funds for our local Douglas Macmillan Hospice in Blurton. Staff and students spent time baking cup cakes and cookies for us to sell at our cake sale.
Many of our students and staff have been affected by the ‘Big C’ and felt that they wanted to help in any way they could. The Douglas Macmillan Hospice is a local charity that provides care and support to anyone over the age of 18, facing any life limiting illness in the North Staffordshire area. We all felt this was a charity close to our hearts. Over £160.00 was raised.
“Our Peer mentors were bubbling with enthusiasm and came in early to set up the room. They put up bunting and balloons to create a ‘vintage cake sale’ atmosphere in SSC. They do an amazing job and are highly valued at UAK. Our Peer mentoring scheme allows the pupils to be responsible and self-motivated which gives them confidence and improves life skills.” Mrs Edgerton
“We enjoyed the experience and were able to raise money for cancer.” Jessica Waltho
“Peer mentoring is a good experience and will help us when we start work.” Megan Turner
