On 15th, 19th and 22nd September, University Academy Kidsgrove students competed in the Newcastle Schools District Cross Country Championships.
This is an annual event where schools all over Newcastle-under-Lyme compete in 3 cross country races. All students improved from last year and it was nice to see new Year 7 students also taking part.
Lauren Cade in Year 9 did particularly well, coming 2nd in two of her races. In the third race, she got caught up when another runner fell, causing her to lose her shoe! She ran a whole lap with just one shoe on and she still managed to finish 4th.
Mrs Castrey, Head of PE, said: “We are very proud of all of our runners. Some of the courses are challenging, and it really shows the pupils’ determination and perseverance.”
Ashley Whitfield, Year 10, said: “I enjoyed racing because I love running. It’s good to take part and meet other competitors.”
