‘A Twist in the Tale’ is a national creative writing competition for 11-18 year olds, run by the Young Writer’s group: https://www.youngwriters.co.uk. An inter-school competition was also held to ensure that one person from this school would win a prize.
Pupils who entered were required to write a short story of no more than 100 words (a lot more difficult than you would think!) which contained an unexpected twist at the end.
The winning entry was from Abbie-Leigh Thompson in 7ERO. This is how her story started…
‘Wandering into the unknown. Trembling over the hard, cold rocks as the air around me whistled. Snap. “What was that?” I stuttered. Silence filled the unwanted air. Water was welling up in my eyes; they were tears. Heaving my heavy sleigh, I was eager to find shelter. That’s when I heard a gruff. It was a wolf, a very large, tangible wolf.’
What do you think came next? What do you think was the twist in the tale?
