On Tuesday, March 13, staff and students at University Academy Kidsgrove (UAK) welcomed the Scholastic Book Fair into the Academy for one week only. The Scholastic Book Fair offers hundreds of new children’s books for students to browse, read and purchase.
A Book Fair is a celebration of reading that puts the very best books directly into the hands of students. The Book Fair provided the Academy with mobile bookcases packed with over 200 of the newest and best books from over sixty publishers to sell to students and develop a life-long love of reading.
The fair aimed to encourage reading for pleasure and boost literacy across the school. Every book purchased will go towards free books for the school. In total, students raised over £286.00 for the Academy from the book fair.
Lauren M, Year 9 student said: “Everyone was really excited about the book fair. There were loads of books and they looked amazing. It was really difficult to choose but in the end I bought ‘Shell’ by Paula Rawsthorne. “
Miss Boon, English Teacher said: “It’s been a great success. The Book Fair allows learners to discover a wide range of great books — enough to get any child excited by reading!”
