UCAT, the leading University sponsor of Academies in the NW of England, is due to have its first trust-wide event on Thursday the 13th of June 2013. The event, named the UCAT Shield has been set up by the Academies themselves with support from the trust and hosted at the University of Chester Warrington campus.
UCAT Shield is a sports day with a difference and will involve Years’ 7 & 8 from each of UCAT’s secondary members. The students will compete in heats, partaking in football, hockey, rowing, softball and netball. Each student will receive lunch and a certificate and the overall winning Academy will receive individual medals and a trophy presented by Warrington Wolves players. It is the intention for UCAT with the support of the Academies to host this event every year with it growing larger to include more students annually.
UCAT will be acting as talent scouts on the day and will be on the lookout for talented players to form UCAT teams. Those students who the scouts feel excel at their chosen sport will be asked to come for trials to then go on to join a trust-wide sports team.
Dr Colin Hankinson, CEO of UCAT said, “I would like to thank UAB’s PE Department for their effort and dedication and each of our Academies for their hard work in establishing this important and momentous event in UCAT’s history. I look forward to the day with tremendous excitement and anticipation.”
