Year 7 Transition Coffee Morning

Year 7 Transition Coffee Morning, 15th November 2010

Our Transition coordinator suggested the coffee morning to help bridge the gap from Primary to Secondary. After informal discussion with parents it became apparent many parents felt they had lost contact during this process. Some parents had issues as part of their own education; others felt intimidated with the size of the building etc.

In response to parents needs a Year 7 coffee morning was organised, giving parents the opportunity to come into school during the morning to talk to a range of staff (Assistant Head, Year Leader, Attendance Officer, School nurse, Parent Support Worker etc.) Parents were also given a guided tour of the building and to see which rooms their child was currently being taught in.

The feedback from parents was very positive; they enjoyed the opportunity to speak to staff and to see if they could assist the school in anyway. Contacts were made and a number of initiatives may well develop from this first meeting. Parents have asked for this coffee morning to continue each term to develop and build stronger relationships. Additional year groups could be invited to extend this project. A specific area would be created on the school website for parents giving details on future events, dates of meetings and topics discussed.
